The Other Side

Now, this purple cloak of night,
'Neath skies of silvery grey,
Adorns the trees and hills beyond,
The other side of day.

Man, his children, birds and beasts,
In peace, shall sleep 'til light
Appears, announcing break of day,
The other side of night.

Life, that force within, without,
Let spirit stretch and yawn,
To give sweet breath to this new day
And fill the birds with song.

And, again, when day is done,
The birds are in their nest;
The sun has left its radiant glow
To bathe all souls with rest.

Now, this purple cloak of night,
'Neath skies of silvery grey,
Adorns the trees and hills beyond,
The other side of day.
