The Covered Door

Treasured friends with food for the mind,
voices that we call books,
Enable us to ride the wind
and travel abroad with a look.
Books teach, comfort, light up our world,
make us laugh and make us cry;
Footprints in time, for posterity,
volumes that never die.
Ideas an author once scribbled in pen -
now stories to digest as we read.
We enter another world with a book -
one of words that were planted like seed.
Novels, history, biographies,
something profound or light;
An author's covered door will beckon
and we'll open that door with delight.
