From the Hill

The little girl's favourite spot to be

Was under the giant maple tree.

From atop the high hill and under the tree

Much of the farm she could see.

The barn and stable, the spring-fed stream,

The beaten paths from cows that give cream;

Coloured fields of wheat and oats,

Animals and fowl in different coats;

The orchard trees of apples and cherries

And split-rail fences with bushes of berries.

Her favourite view in all her life's moons

Was grandma's house-of-many-rooms.
