FRIENDSHIP

Friends cannot be bought or sold for friendship is a gift.
To be a friend, you give yourself and someone gets a lift.
Friends were strangers once, you know, before they ever met,
Shook hands, and said, "How do you do?" 'Tis simple "etiquette".

You can be a friend yourself -- just take a look around --
If you'd but listen, lend an ear where cries for help are found.
Conversation breaks the ice; ideas you'll exchange;
Soon, you will be on common ground where neither will feel strange.

Confidences shared alike, then, both may understand
The problems and the answers, if you each just lend a hand.
Lasting friendships start like this so many times, you know;
Concern for others is the key to how true friendships grow.
