Day's End

In the western sky is a dramatic sea

of lavender and pearl;

Sparsely scattered, burning-pink

surrounds in ornate swirl.

Sunsets are never, never the same -

they are changing all the while;

Colours we simply cannot imagine

overflow with heavenly style.

Since time began these colours have mixed

in glorious, different ways;

The sun takes its leave and we witness, with wonder,

divine art's climax of days.
